gardy loo Published once each semester, gardy loo is a student-run organization with a magazine of the Arts at its core. The publication, which acts as an outlet for student expression, features poetry, prose, photography, artwork, opinion editorials and feature articles. Staff members vote on submissions anonymously during a one-week judging period, assist with layout during a three-week production period, and attend regular staff meetings to discuss and plan other gardy loo sponsored events. Gardy loo sponsors an annual Arts Week celebration in April, bringing in speakers and setting up events in collaboration with other student organizations to draw attention to and celebrate the talent and creativity of the JMU and local communities. Students from all majors and years are welcome.

Global Nonviolence Club The purpose of the Global Nonviolence Club, a unit of the Mahatma Gandhi Center for Global Nonviolence, at James Madison University is to promote a culture of peace. As stated in the United Nations definition, a culture of peace is a set of values, attitudes, modes of behavior, and ways of life that reject violence and prevent conflicts by tackling their root causes to solve problems through dialogue and negotiation among individuals, groups, and nations. Overtones The Overtones, JMU's first co-ed a acapella group was formed in 1997 to promote a capella music. It is a social organization run by studnets with numerous performance opportunities and many ways to make new friends.
