The Madison International Program, housed in Ashby Hall, is for both U.S. nationals and JMU international students who have an interest in different cultures and enjoy learning about the world. Ashby is a co-educational, first-year and upper-class hall.
Incoming freshmen should visit the One Book website to complete an application.
All who are selected to live in Madison International
must read and sign the following Ashby Hall Honor Statement upon check-in:
Madison International (MI-Ashby Hall) is a living-
learning experience designed to foster a celebration of the world community.
To achieve this aim, residents must have a sincere desire to learn about,
respect, and share one another’s cultures. Residents are expected to (1) be
a member of at least one MI committee or participate in coordinating at
least one special program per semester, and (2) actively participate in
other scheduled events.
I understand and accept the above responsibilities and understand that if I
do not abide by this code, my residence in MI (Ashby Hall) may be terminated
and I may be assigned to another residence hall.
I understand that, in order to meet expectations regarding committee participation, I may be required to register for a 1-credit course each semester. This course will function as my committee meeting.
I understand that I will have to enroll in courses associated with the program, including HRD 145, Leadership in a Diverse World and GEIC 202, Making Sense of Beliefs and Values: A Guided Tour for Global Citizens, unless previously completed.
