Academic Support Instruction is a program offered by First Year Involvement and the Office of Residence Life. This program offers sessions throughout the semester on topics such as study skills, reading strategies, time and stress management, test-taking skills, and learning styles. This is a great opportunity for First Year students to work on honing their academic skills at the University level.
Take advantage of this opportunity by checking out the Spring 2008 ASI schedule and simply attending sessions of interest that are offered throughout the semester.
First Year Students mainly, but upperclassmen who still do not feel
confident in their academic skills are encouraged to attend. Also, this is a
great resource for
RAs and HDs who want to run an academic program or get more information to
help residents!
Sessions will be offered weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. These sessions are typically in Madison or Constitution Rooms, which are located in the Huffman Hall B-section in the Village. Sessions are offered in the evenings. Additionally, the sessions are 30 minutes in length, which is short, yet informative.
The facilitators of ASI are typically upperclassmen or graduate students,
who have a desire and interest in helping students achieve academic success.
Please
use your facilitators as resources and ask lots of questions.
No. If you attend one session on study skills, then you will get the information you need to help you in that area. However, if you want additional learning tools, please attend sessions that cover other topics as well. You may find that overlap in areas such as test-taking skills and study skills can only help!
Check out the Spring 2008 ASI schedule and find the session that best fits your interests and schedule and show up. A facilitator will be there to help. No prior appointments are needed. If you have more ideas for future sessions please follow up with the GA of Academic Support Programs listed below.
