Where You Live Matters
This is especially
true for college students who have a lot to juggle
and accomplish. Here in the Office of Residence
Life, we know you are faced with an important
decision and we can help! We urge you to take the
time to talk openly with your parents about the
advantages and disadvantages of both on and off
campus living. We recommend that students stay
on campus for at least two years, and this is why:
Research indicates that students who live on campus are:
- More likely to graduate
- More satisfied with their overall
college experience
- More interactive with faculty
- More involved with campus
activities and social issues
Some students are ready for the independence of
off campus life earlier than others. Most students,
however, find that having someone else do the grocery
shopping, cooking, dishwashing, and cleaning
to be pretty convenient. (Just like home, right?)
There are some major advantages to
staying on campus:
- Close to classes, offices and JMU facilities
- No monthly bills to pay
- Bus service
- Academic year contract (August-May) vs. 12 month lease
- Madison International-Ashby Hall
- Dining options
- It’s where your friends are
- Job opportunities
- Substance Free Halls

If you do decide to live on campus next year, you
will need to make that decision by February. This is
the timeline for returning student contracts.

choose to stay with us for 2006-2007.
Keep On Livin' On
Let us sweat the details
Life’s too short to be bothered with boring chores.
Do the things you want to do and let us sweat the
details. Study, go to UREC, have some fun - live!
Let us take care of stuff like cleaning, cooking, grocery
shopping and paying utility bills. Heck, we’ll
even do the yard work and stock the toilet paper.
Don’t miss your chance to spend your college days
really living your life.
