Welcome!

So, you are looking for a place to live off campus? Off-Campus Life realizes that where you live and whom you live with has a tremendous influence on your academic success and overall happiness while attending college. Expectations, roommates, living conditions, budgets and landlords can make or break your college career.

Off Campus Life joins with Residence Life in encouraging all students to live on campus at least two years. Statistics have shown that living on "two" benefits students socially and academically.

We urge transfer students to apply for on-campus housing as well as investigating off-campus arrangements.

Whether you are new to JMU or not, living off campus presents new challenges and opportunities for growth and change. It is a time for taking on new responsibilities and becoming a member of the local community. You will find that you have more choices and decisions to make on a day-to-day basis such as budgeting, paying bills, committing to getting to class on time and remaining involved with JMU activities. Students who live off campus succeed when they plan ahead, do not rush into a housing situation and understand their responsibilities both as a member of the local community and as a JMU student.

We are here to help.

This Off Campus Housing Guide has been developed as a general guide to assist students, graduate students and new faculty/staff with their housing needs and to communicate general university and community services. For more details, visit us in Warren Hall, Room 270 (near Transitions) or check out our website at http://www.jmu.edu/ocl.
