Teacher Education Unit Partnership Meeting
Minutes
April 24, 2001, 4:00 p.m.
1. Members Present: Violet Allain, Cheryl Beverly, Les Bolt, Gerry Green, John Fahey, David Lane, Michael Rettig, Emma Savage-Davis, Jane Smith, David Shipp, Jackie Williams.
2. Minutes Approval: The minutes of March 27, 2001 were approved by acclamation.
3. Selection of School-Partnership Recognition Awards
A. Partnership Service Award Winner- Karen Santos, JMU
B. Partnership Professional Development Award-Tammy Peeling and Mary Kane, Waynesboro City Schools
C. Partnership Teacher Preparation Award-Kerry Gehring, Thomas Harrison Middle School, Harrisonburg City Schools
Jane Smith, Emma Savage-Davis, Gerry Green, David Shipp, and John Fahey are planning to attend the luncheon. Gerry will inform VVPE regarding our number of participants. Gerry will send a letter to the recipients informing them of their award and inviting them and their spouses to the luncheon.
4. Committee Reports
A. Involvement and Inquiry-Cheri and Jackie shared a draft version of the "JMU School of Education Partnership Assessment." A variety of suggestions were made regarding the questions and format of the assessment. It was agreed to create some partnership-specific questions and to administer the survey before the end of this year. Cheri's committee was commended for their efforts.
B. School Communication-Christine Letsky at the Madison Media Lab in CISAT has the website content. Website development is on hold because of funding.
C. Partnership Network Committee-No report
D. Resources and Positions-Mike reported on the progress of the plan for a TIR in Rockingham.
5. Partnership Site Reports
A. Rockingham-"Data in a Day" sessions were held at both Hillyard and Broadway. Twenty teams were involved at Broadway including several central office personnel. Data have been used in the past to guide staff development efforts. Les reported on a variety of other related matters.
B. Waynesboro- David Shipp shared a written report. A new teacher in residence has been selected and approved by administrators in Waynesboro. Mary Faye Robson will be meeting with Dr. Watson in the near future. Dr. Fahey has now taught in 168 classes!!!
C. Harrisonburg-No report
D. Augusta-David Lane distributed a written report. Mentioned prominently were the fact that three CSL grants were funded in the Partnership and the publication of the 4th newsletter. The 4th steering committee meeting was held on April 24, 2001, and a fifth meeting is scheduled for May.
6. The next meeting of the Unit Partnership Committee is scheduled for Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at 4:00 in the Reading Center.
7. The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
