Vincent Pedulla in ROTC at JMU

HARRISONBURG — A James Madison University student who died during Airborne School training in Georgia in summer 2005 will be remembered with a memorial service at JMU on Veterans Day.

JMU's ROTC will hold the service Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. for Vincent J. Pedulla Jr., a member of JMU's Duke Battalion who died June 16, 2005, at age 19 at Fort Benning, Ga., from heat exhaustion during training exercises.

At the end of the service at JMU's Memorial Hall, ROTC cadets will fire a cannon salute (the cannon is the one used at JMU football games).

Pedulla, a 2004 graduate of Poquoson (Va.) High School, had been a freshman majoring in biology for medical school preparation at JMU, and was a Student Duke Club member. In ROTC, he participated in Color Guard and Drill Team. He also was an avid tennis and racquetball player.

He is survived by his parents, retired Lt. Col. and Mrs. Vincent J. Pedulla Sr., and two brothers: Joseph, who is in the ROTC program at Old Dominion University, and Michael.
