‘BOTANICAL CHRISTMAS’ CLASS, HOLIDAY HOUSE TOUR OFFERED
HARRISONBURG — The Edith J. Carrier Arboretum and Botanical Gardens at James Madison University will sponsor “Botanical Christmas Decorations for Your Home” Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Room 123, JMU Modular Building.
The class, taught by Melanie Rowan, costs $45 and includes all materials. Participants are asked to bring clippers and gardening gloves. The registration deadline is Nov. 25.
Class participants will learn how to make a four-foot swag assembled from fresh cut traditional evergreens and decorated with evergreens, magnolias, berries, pine cones and other materials suitable for a mantle, door surround, banister or dining room table. Participants will watch a how-to video on pruning, learning techniques to gather greenery for year-round decorating.
The arboretum is also sponsoring “An American Homestead Christmas,” a holiday house tour at Buffalo Springs Herb Farm, Sunday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 5 p.m. The cost is $25 per person and includes entry fee and transportation. The registration deadline is Nov. 22.
The self-guided tour includes refreshments, holiday decoration ideas and hostesses to answer questions. The Barn Gift Shop will be open. The bus leaves at 1 p.m. from the JMU Convocation Center parking lot.
