Dr. Kathryn E. Stevens, Director Mrs. Melanie Brimhall, Director of Education Ms. Virginia Soenksen, Assistant Curator of Asian Art
Dr. Stevens received her Ph.D. in Art History from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2003. She also holds an M.A. in Art History and a B.S. in Anthropology, both from James Madison University. In addition to overseeing the collection’s internship program, Dr. Monger also teaches Art of the Ancient World, Art of Ancient Egypt, and Museum Practices for the School of Art and Art History. I graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2005 with a B.S. in Psychology. I then accepted a job in Utsunomiya, Japan where I lived and worked for eighteen months. I have been fascinated with Asian art my entire life and it was in Japan that I decided to pursue a Master’s in Art History and Museum Studies. I am currently researching the Asian Art collection in order to add to our knowledge of each piece. In the future I hope to earn my Ph.D. and work as a curator in an Asian art museum.
