  • Your state historic preservation office is the first place to go for information on historic resources in a particular area. The website at  http://www.cr.nps.gov/nr/shpolist.htm contains a list of every state office in the country.

  • If old maps interest you, check out the David Rumsey Historical Map Collection at http://www.davidrumsey.com/ for an incredible collection of historical maps, and now, an excellent collection of high-quality photographs of early American gravestones. The Farber Gravestone Collection contains more than 13,500 searchable images documenting the sculpture on more than 9,000 gravestones, most of which were made prior to 1800, in the Northeastern part of the United States.
