Five $1,000 History Alumni
Scholarships for the spring 2010 semester have been awarded to
Rebekah Mehegan, Richard Potts, Sonya Thomas, Brian Murren, and Mary
Lynne Smith. A hearty thank you to the generous
alumni and friends who have enabled the department to offer these
scholarships.

Summers, B.A. 1993, published "The Epigone’s Embrace,
Part II: C. Wright Mills and the New Left" in the 2009 volume of
Left History, a biannual interdisciplinary journal of historical
inquiry and debate. John earned the Ph.D. from the University of
Rochester in 2006 and, in fall 2009, was Visiting
Scholar at the Boisi Center for Religion and American Public Life at
Boston College.Matt Fulgham, B.A. 1989 and M.A. 1991, visited campus March
11, 2008, in his role as Assistant Director of Legislative Archives
at the National Archives. He spoke during Centennial Week
celebrations on "The National Archives - Preserving the Nation's
History from Madison's Messages to 9/11 Commission E-mails."
Patrick Creed, B.A. 1993, published an account of the
firefighting and rescue operations at the Pentagon following the
terrorist attack on 9/11. Patrick wrote: "Training from my JMU professors was invaluable during the course
of my research, especially from Dr. Arndt." Firefight:
