Service
-
Every chapter is required to have an elected or appointed Community Service Chairperson.
-
Each chapter is required to complete 'X' number of hours depending on the number of members (i.e. fifty members = 50 * 3 = 150 hours), per member. Minimum of THREE hours per member.
-
Each individual member is responsible for tracking their own individual community service hours and turning in a list of those hours to the Community Service Chair by an assigned date.
-
The Community Service Chair is then responsible for compiling these results and turning them in to the SOS Office. (By submitting their individual hours, the chapter members are verifying they have fully completed the total number of hours they give to the Chair)
-
Chapters may not count hours worked in support of philanthropies for their required community service hours. Sanctioned community service hours will not count towards required community service.
-
Recognizing that most chapters have a National Philanthropy that they support, it must be made clear the distinct difference between philanthropy and community service. Community service involves action taken with and for community members. Community service is working side by side with members of the community who are in need of assistance. Philanthropy is raising and donating money. While this money is an important part of survival for these causes purely donating money is not considered community service. Every chapter is expected to maintain their current philanthropy, while simultaneously participating in community service.
-
IFC and Panhellenic will work to put together a philanthropy event for the entire FSL community to occur during Greek Week during the spring semester.
