Scholarship
Chapters will appoint or elect a Scholarship Chairperson who is responsible for monitoring members’ academic performance and arranging special programs to meet the chapter and individual member needs in this area. Additionally, the chair will be required to share any information on Scholarship that is provided by the Inter/National Organization.
Chapters will develop a scholarship mission statement for their organization. Chapters will develop programs to recognize and offer incentives to their members to maintain academic standards throughout all of their member’s college experience. Should chapters fall below the JMU Male/Female average appropriate sanctioning through the internal standards board will occur. Individual chapters must meet with the Coordinator of FSL by the specified date to review and have approve their scholarship plan. As internal is occurring throughout the semester, chapters will provide proof of this process to SOS. Should appropriate and effective sanctioning not be occurring through internal standards boards, SOS will work wit the chapter in assigning appropriate chapter sanctions.
Scholarship Chairs will be in charge of implementation and
coordination of the FSL tutoring resource where students can
work together to increase academic success through peer
tutoring. Recognition will be a part of each chapter and awards
will be given accordingly.
Every Executive Officer in the chapter or on a Governing council
must be currently enrolled at JMU and have a GPA of 2.0 or above
to be elected. If an Executive Officer’s cumulative GPA fails
below a 2.0 while in office, the officer must forfeit his/her
position. If no GPA is available, due to the transfer status of
a perspective officer, they may hold office unless their
cumulative JMU GPA falls below 2.0.
