Chapter History
The Delta Chi Fraternity at James Madison University is a social organization unlike any other. Our international fraternity was founded on October 13, 1890, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Originally a law fraternity, the founders of Delta Chi based the organization on the principles of friendship, character, justice and education. Now as a social fraternity, the brotherhood extends its mission to provide a well-rounded collegiate experience for men across North America.
Since receiving its charter in 2001, Delta Chi has developed into one of the premier social fraternities at JMU and is proud of all its brothers including two student government presidents, club sports players, orientation leaders and members of dozens of other campus organizations. However, the fun, social value and experiences associated with being a Delta Chi extend far beyond the JMU campus.
Since its founding in 1890, Delta Chi has grown to more than 125 chapters and colonies across North America and has initiated more than 94,000 men. Becoming a member of Delta Chi is more than just becoming part of a club. It provides you with the opportunity to be involved with an international brotherhood spanning 118 years, to refine your personal and social skills, to develop a sense of belonging and fellowship in a college environment, and to jump-start your success after college. It also encourages you to broaden your college experiences through leadership programming, intramural sports, academic support, inter-Greek/social events, regional conferences, and international conventions. Being a Delta Chi at JMU means earning the respect of your peers and leading the campus community while making the most of your college experience.
The Preamble of Delta Chi:
"We, the members of The Delta Chi Fraternity, believing that great advantages are to be derived from a brotherhood of college and university men, appreciating that close association may promote friendship, develop character, advance justice, andassist in the acquisition of a sound education, do ordain and establish this Constitution".
