Faculty Handbook Committee Minutes

Present were:  Cynthia Gilliatt, Nick Swayne, Bill O’Meara, Susan Wheeler, Chuck Bilbrey and Andy Kohen

The focus of this meeting was to review a draft document that Susan Wheeler had written, incorporating a Faculty Senate document of suggested wording with the current handbook version of III.A.  After some discussion it was the feeling of the group that it might be possible to combine numbers 19 & 20 of this section into one.  Susan will craft a rewrite that would combine these two for consideration at the next meeting.    Susan will also do some research with other institutions to see what they have in place to protect whistle-blowers.  There was some discussion as to where this issue needed to be addressed, in the handbook or a university policy. 

Bill will draft a rewrite of the opening section of  III.A.2.a. Academic Freedom.  This will be discussed at the next meeting.

Dr. Brakke had forwarded two documents to the committee earlier in the week for consideration on CAP.  With Dr. Brakke not being present at the meeting the members wanted to wait and discuss this when he was available to address it.
