Faculty Handbook Committee Minutes

Present were: Bill O’Meara, Cynthia Gilliatt, Chuck Bilbrey, Susan Wheeler and David Brakke

The following changes were made, or suggested changes to these sections.

Section III.E.4.a. – Faculty Anticipated Activity Plan (page 38). Add to the end of the second sentence “and should share with PAC”.

Section III.E.4. – Annual Evaluation (page 38). Add after second sentence a third sentence “Academic unit head may solicit information from PAC according to department procedures”.

Section III.J.2.b. – Adjustments Due to Merit (page 62). It was felt there should be a clear understanding at the department level of how the raises were based and why a faculty member did not receive a raise.

Section IV.C.3.a.(1) - Responsibilities (of PAC) (page 78). The discussion was to define the true role of the PAC. One point that was not clear was whether the PAC has any input on resources. David will forward to the committee members copies of the draft documents on PAC for review.

Susan distributed copies of university policies that apply only to faculty. She asked if the group thought they might want to consider the possibility of incorporating these into the faculty handbook and removing them from the university policy manual. This is to be considered by the committee and will discussed again in next years meetings.
