Welcome to the home page of James Madison University's Faculty Senate. The function of the Faculty Senate is to represent the faculty in the consideration of all policies that affect the academic climate and direction of the institution. The Faculty Senate seeks to create, maintain and protect a university environment conductive to the growth of scholarship, learning, teaching, research, service, and respect for human dignity and rights. Among other things the responsibilities of the Faculty Senate include:

During Fall, the Faculty Senate meets the first Thursday of each month. During Spring, meetings are held the last Thursday of the month. Meetings are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Taylor 306 (Refreshments at 3:15pm). Each department is represented by a voting faculty member. Meetings are also open to all JMU faculty. Meetings dates for 2008-2009 are as follows: September 4, October 2, November 6, December 4, January 29, February 26, March 26, April 30. An additional organizational meeting for 2009-2010 maybe scheduled for mid-April, and both in-coming members for 2009-2010 and out-going members for 2008-2009 should attend this meeting. The date of the reception for retiring faculty will be posted when it is determined. |
