| Welcome to the dentist's office. Have a seat while Dr. Stacie Barb answers some of your questions.
How often should I see the dentist? Every 6 months for a check-up and cleaning
What is the best way to brush my teeth? Use a soft bristled brush. Angle the brush toward the gum line. Brush your teeth twice a day and take 2 minutes each time. It is also important to brush your tongue with your toothbrush.
How do I use dental floss? Wrap the floss around your two middle fingers. Pull the floss in between each tooth. Make sure you pull the floss all the way down below the gum line.
What is the best toothpaste to use? Good toothpaste will have fluoride and tartar control in it. Whitening toothpaste can be used, but it may make your teeth sensitive. Try to by toothpaste that the American Dental Association has approved. If this organization has approved the toothpaste, the words "ADA Approved" will appear on the box. If the ADA has approved it, the toothpaste will have fluoride and tartar control in it.
What is a cavity? How can I prevent cavities? A cavity is the break
down of a tooth. Plaque causes cavities. Plaque is bacteria that build
up on teeth. To prevent plaque, brush and floss daily. This removes the
bacteria from your teeth so these germs cannot destroy the tooth. Also,
do not eat a lot of sugary foods. Sugar feeds bacteria. |
